The statement of the former head of the National Security Bureau caused a stir in the Polsat News studio.

One of the topics of Tuesday's program " Debate Gozdyra " was the issue of sending Polish troops to Ukraine , which was recently unequivocally ruled out by Prime Minister Donald Tusk .

- If we say "firmly no", firstly, no one will take us seriously in this discussion, secondly, we do not even know the format of this mission, and we are already saying no - commented Gen. Roman Polko .

As he argued, Poland's stance on this issue may influence the decisions of other countries.

- The Germans and Italians will not participate in the mission if they see that the country that aspires to be a leader on NATO's north-eastern flank rules out any military presence - he stressed.

According to the general, the Polish contribution to logistics is not enough. - No one will hold us accountable for history, only for what we are building for the future. It is in the Polish national interest that this European or international mission is effective - he emphasized.

- First of all, let's get to know the format of this mission. (...) It will primarily come down to logistics. And let's not make Polish soldiers tuck their tails between their legs like cowards - he added.

As he added, "if we are not in Ukraine, it may happen that Russia will come to us."

- Unfortunately, I fundamentally disagree with the general, because general Polko mixes up two issues in his statement. It is one thing for Poland to have dedicated forces for potential support, and another thing for a Polish soldier to stand on the front line - commented on his words Jerzy Marek Nowakowski .

- But I didn't say anything about Polish soldiers standing on the front line. Please listen with understanding - General Polko replied. As he emphasized, he meant Polish soldiers guarding the peace agreements in Ukraine.
